Gig | Blue Whale, Gross Net, Venus Dupree, Thin Air
August 15, 2014 @ 9:00 pm - August 16, 2014 @ 2:30 am
£10.00Due to other commitments, namely a new born baby and the excellent Fellow Bicycle Company, Elder will sadly no longer be playing bass for Blue Whale. We wanted to organise one last show for him and Platform Arts were kind enough to let us use their space for the event. The line up is as follows:
Blue Whale
“I really like Blue Whale… they kind of remind me of Albert Ayler playing with a bunch of kids that grew up on Steve Albini records.” – Andy Cairns, Therapy?
“There aren’t too many “experimental party” contenders around in 2014, but even if they were ten-a-penny in Irish venues, we reckon Blue Whale would elliptically battle them off the dance floor with ease.” – Hot Press Magazine
“Blue Whale scare me” – Philly Taggart – BBC Introducing
“Highly imaginative… exhibiting a meticulous, innovative yet playful style… with a collective eye and two ears towards compositional ingenuity” – AU Magazine
“Wonderfully ordered chaos… post-Rock tinged with Math-Rock sensibilities (Post Rock2 if you will)… it’s exhilarating” – BBC Across The Line
Gross Net
Electronic post-punk from members of Girls Names and Autumns influenced by the synthier side of the first wave of post punk, German NDW and Krautrock. This will be their first Belfast show.
It Was All A Bit Black & White
Two piece experimental instrumental band from Galway. Expect guitar loops and synthesisers.
With DJ sets from Venus Dupree and The Thin Air until late.
